Labourer dies after he gets trapped under soil during underground pipeline work

SHIVAMOGGA: A labourer died after after a cave-in on Savalanga Road here while carrying out work on laying underground pipelines where a railway flyover is being built. The deceased labourer was identified as Satish Naik (30), a resident of Mandenakoppa.

A 11-foot deep pit was being excavated with an excavator to lay the underground pipeline. At this time, the labourer Satish was working inside the pit. He was caught under the soil as a result of a mudslide.

The workers used the excavator to save Satish, but the bucket hit the worker’s head. Other workers immediately lifted him from the pit and rushed him to McGann hospital, but he died without responding to the treatment.

A case has been registered at the Shivamogga Rural police station regarding the incident.
