K’taka govt to celebrate ‘Republic Day’ at Chamarajpet Idgah Maidan

BENGALURU: Lok Sabha member P C Mohan, who represent Bangalore Central parliamentary constituency, on Sunday announced that the state Revenue Department will celebrate Republic Day at Idgah Maidan in Chamarajpet.

Over the last few days, there has been confusion regarding the celebration of Republic Day at the ground. The Chamarajpet Civic Union had also expressed its anger against the government and had set a deadline till Saturday for the government to decide. A meeting was organised by different organisations and the MP was also invited to the meeting. But before participating in the meeting, he announced that the government will celebrate Republic Day at the Idgah Maidan.

The flag will be hoisted by Assistant Commissioner of Bengaluru North, Shivanna. On Tuesday, the MP will meet the district deputy commissioner to discuss the contours of the programme.

“I have spoken with Revenue Minister R Ashok about the same and he will give instructions to the DC. The state government will celebrate Republic Day on the ground and it has also agreed to celebrate Independence Day. I will meet the DC and we will discuss the outline of the programme. Last time, it was a last-minute decision, so we could not gather everyone, but this time, more people will participate in the event. Come what may, we will unfurl the national flag on Republic Day”, said P C Mohan.

We have met with the Chief Minister, ministers, and government officials in recent days to request that the National Festival be celebrated on the ground. We had given Saturday as the deadline but today they announced that they will be hoisting the flag and we are very happy about that. Our organisation will cooperate and we want it to be a colourful event. According to the court order, the government or the BBMP can organise an event. We will meet with DC and we will give suggestions to them”, said Ramegowda of the Chamarajpete Civic Union.

“After 25 years, they hoisted our national flag On August 15 at the Idgah Maidan. Bangalore Central MP P C Mohan state Revenue Minister R Ashoka and the DC have planned to organise a programme on Republic Day. I thank the government for conducting the programme. We will soon conduct a Sri Rama Navami programme, and everything will be peaceful. We will be happy to offer any suggestions, if needed”, said Lahari Velu, chief of Lahari Music.
