KSRTC driver runs bus into group of women waiting to board

The women tried to stop the bus, but the driver drove ahead unmindful of their presence.

TUMAKURU: The driver of a KSRTC bus menacing drove the vehicle into a small group of women who were trying to board it, near Nagenahalli Gate in Koratagere taluk on Thursday evening.

With bus travel being made free for women, a group from Kollegal had gone to visit the Goravanahalli Mahalakshmi temple on Thursday. After visiting the temple, the women, along with a child, were waiting for over two hours for a bus to get back home.

When a bus finally arrived, the women tried to flag down the bus, but the driver didn’t stop as there would be no ticket collection from the women. The group of women, along with the child, then stood in front of the bus demanding that they be allowed to board, but the driver drove into the group, almost mowing them down, and forcing them to run helter skelter.

The women and some locals later complained to tahsildhar Muniswamy Reddy wo arrived at the spot. The tahsildar later made arrangements for their travel.

Reacting to the incident, KSRTC managing director Anbu Kumar said they have considered the incident seriously and warned the driver. Senior officials will create awareness among drivers to be courteous towards women passengers, he said.
