BENGALURU: The state has seen a surge in milk production over the past month, with the Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) recording its highest-ever milk procurement of one crore litres per day in May.

In June and July, milk production was around 90 lakh litres per day. However, since the end of May this year, milk production has consistently exceeded one crore litres per day, with the current daily procurement standing at 1.05 crore litres.

Dairy: Health food or health risk? - Harvard HealthThe recent rainfall in the state has created a conducive environment for cattle, with green fodder available in abundance. As a result, milk procurement has increased. Out of the daily procurement of one crore litres, 80 lakh litres are sold to consumers, while the excess milk is used to produce other products including milk powder, curd, and other value-added products.

The KMF had set a target of 1.25 crore litres of milk procurement during the monsoon season, and with consistent daily procurement of 1.05 crore litres over the past month, it seems likely to achieve its goal.
