The villagers took out a protest march from the village to the police station on Saturday.

MANDYA: The police, who had registered an FIR in the Keragodu saffron flag hoisting incident during Hanuman Jayanti in January, have now issued notices to some Hindu leaders asking to show cause why history sheets should not be opened against them.

Among those who have been served the notices are VHP Mysuru division joint secretary Chikkaballi Balu a.k.a. Balakrishna, Karthik and Harish.

“The police are harassing Hanuman devotees by regularly issuing notices to us months after the incident. The notice issues to me says I, a lawyer, am an accused in the Keragodu flag hoisting case. The police have already filed a chargesheet in the case, but some officers are deliberately doing this to harass us”, Balu said.

On Saturday, residents of Keragodu vented their anger against the alleged police highhandedness. The conducted puja at the flag pole in the vilalge and took out a protest march till the Keragodu police station where they staged a sit-in. They dispersed after the Deputy SP met them and assured them of discussing the issue with senior officers.
