BENGALURU: The Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation’s (BMTC) Kempegowda bus station in Subhashnagar, popularly known as Majestic, will get a makeover and work will begin soon. The bus station sees thousands of passengers every day.

The nodal bus station in the heart of the city is in need of urgen repairs as the infrastructure is crumbling. The semi-circular bus station was built in 45 years ago. After pressure from commuters, the Transport Department has now decided to taken up renovation work.

Transport Minister Ramalinga Reddy said the bus terminal will be upgraded and given a hi-tech look. “The bus terminal was inaugurated by then Chief Minister R Gundu Rao in 1980. Those days, the number of schedules was very less, but today, BMTC is running 12,000-13,000 schedules while KSRTC runs over 3,000 schedules. When I was transport minister in my earlier stint, we tried to take up upgradation of the terminal, but it didn’t happen. Now, with the increased number of schedules and the lack of space, we need to upgrade the terminal soon”, he said.
