BENGALURU: The state government has dropped the idea of having four-year degree courses and has reverted to the three-year format. The new rule will be implemented from the 2024-25 academic year itself.

In its interim report, the committee set up to formulate the State Education Policy (SEP) had recommended to the state government to revert to the three-year format and to drop the four-year format under the New Education Policy (NEP) that came into effect last year.

The committee is headed by Prof Sukhdev Thorat. Acting on the committee recommendation, the Higher Education Department has issued orders that degree courses will be for three years only from the upcoming academic year itself.
