Karnataka registers 73.45 pass percentage in PUC II exams, girls outshine boys again

The Primary and Secondary Education Minister announced the results on Tuesday.

BENGALURU: Girls have yet again outshone boys in the PUC II exams, the results of which were announced by Primary and Secondary Education Minister Madhu Bangarappa on Tuesday. The state registered a pass percentage of 73.45 with 4,68,439 students clearing the exams.

While 1,00,571 students have passed with distinction, 2,68,054 students passed in first class, 70,969 in second class and 18,845 in third class. In the Arts stream, 81,553 (53.29 pc), in Commerce 1,55,425 (76.07 pc), and in Science, 2,31,461(82.54 pc) students cleared the exams.

In the Arts stream, Sanjanabai of Indu PU College, Ballari, topped with 597 marks out of a total of 600. In Commerce, Deepashree of Canara PU College, Mangaluru topped with 599 marks, while in Science, Amulya Kamath of Expert PU College, Mangaluru, and Deeksha of Vagdevi PU College, Shivamogga, shared the top honours with 599 marks each.

Sri Jayadarshini, one of the toppers in the Arts stream from Maharani Ammanni College in Bengaluru was overjoyed with the results. “My lecturers and principal were very supportive and there was a very good environment in the college. My friends also supported me a lot. With everyone’s backing, I have come this far and in the days ahead, I want to crack the UPSC exams”, she said.

Udupi stood first among the educational districts with a pass percentage of 93.90 followed by Dakshina Kannada (93.57 pc), Bengaluru South (85.36 per cent) and at the last with 73.45 per cent. While 2,69,212 girls students (77.88 pc) passed the exam, 1,99,227 (68.20 pc) boys made the cut. Urban students outshone their rural counterparts with 3,75,188 (74.55 pc) clearing the PUC exam while in the latter category, 93,251 (69.33 pc) passed.

Minister Madhu Bangarappa said no fee will have to be paid for the second and third exams and the last date for applying for scanned copies of answer sheets if April 13. The last date for downloading answerscripts is April 16 while the last date to apply for revaluation and recounting of marks is April 17.

“This year, there was webcasting of the exams for transparency and hence, there is a drop in pass percentage. We will take steps to improve this. All issues related to the announcement of the results were discussed with the Chief Minister. Those who could not pass in the first attempt, can try the second and third attempts”, he said.

The PUC exam-2 will be held from April 245 to May 8 and the exam-3 will be held from June 9 to 21. The minister also said that the age norm for admission to Class 1 has been referred to the State Education Policy (SEP) committee and a decision on it will be taken soon.
