Karnataka High Court dismisses plea challenging ban on PFI under UAPA

BENGALURU: The Karnataka High Court on Wednesday dismissed a writ petition questioning the ban imposed by the Union government on the Popular Front of India (PFI) .

A single-judge bench of Justice Nagaprasanna dismissed the petition filed by the Karnataka president of the PFI, Nasir Ali, questioning the ban under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The court had earlier heard the arguments of both sides and had reserved its order.

Nod for Datta Jayanti celebration

A division bench of Justices Alok Aradhe and Vishwajit Shetty gave the go-ahead for the Datta Jayanti celebration on December 6, 7 and 9.

The bench was hearing a petition filed by Ghouse Mohsin Shakadri challenging the appointment of a priest at the shrine by a committee formed by the government to manage the affairs of the Datta Peetha.

The court has posted the matter to January 12 for further hearing.
