Jayanagar MLA writes to Home minister on increasing drug menace, seeks action

BENGALURU: With the drug menace rampant in the city and students easily falling prey to drug addiction, questions are being raised about the influence of the drug mafia and the effectiveness of the police in dealing with it.

Jayanagar area, which has its own charm, seems to also be coming under the grip of the drug mafia. There are more than 30 pubs and bars in the Assembly constituency, which have now become hubs for illegal activities. Taking note of the developments, Jayanagar BJP MLA C K Ramamurthy has written a letter to Home Minister G Parameshwara stating that the student culture in colleges is under attack.

The drug mafia and ganja peddling are rampant in the city. It is spreading in well settled residential areas. College students are also addicted to this. The drug menace is affecting the rich Indian culture, and the people of the constituency are facing problems. There are more than 30 pubs, bars, and restaurants around JP Nagar in Jayanagar and the area is becoming a haven for illicit activities, the Jayanagar MLA noted, and sought immediate action.

MLA Ramamurthy alleged that drugs are being supplied to students of prestigious who are getting addicted to it. There is a need for quick action by the authorities concerned and the government should pay attention to tackling this menace, he noted. The future of colleges in the Jayanagar constituency is important. People are demanding that stern action be against ganja peddlers, he added.
