CHITRADURGA: A woman who had married out of caste committed suicide after her husband left her and married another woman, at Kunabevu village in Chitradurga taluk. The deceased has been identified as Vishalakshi (21).
Thippeswamy lived near Vishalakshi’s house and fell in love with her when she was undergoing training at the GTTC (Government Tool Room and Training Centre). The two got married last year. Thippeswamy belonged to the ST community while Vishalakshi belonged to the Dalit community.
Thippeswamy left his wife as his family opposed their marriage and Vishalakshi resumed her training at the GTTC, while staying at her mother’s house in Kunabevu village.
In the meantime, Vishalakshi hanged herself after coming to know that Thippeswamy has married another woman. A case has been registered at the Turvanur police station in this regard.
Angered by Vishalakshi’s suicide, her family members and relatives staged a protest before the Chitradurga SP’s office claiming that they would not perform her last rites. They demanded the arrest Thippeswamy immediately, contending that he abetted her suicide. Later, the police convinced the victim’s family members to perform the funeral rites.
