MYSURU: Huge rocks came loose and fell on the main road leading to the Chamundeshwari temple atop Chamundi Hills on Tuesday due to the incessant rain caused due to Cyclone Fengal.
Luckily, the rocks fell to the side of the road near Tavarekatte and there was no damage to property or loss of life. While traffic movement was slightly affected for some time, the authorities visited the spot and got the rocks moved away from the road with the help of an excavator. Normal traffic resumed later.
Over the last two days, Mysuru has been witnessing moderate rainfall owing to the cyclonic storm. In recent years, such instances have been occurring whenever the city receives rainfall continuously for 2-3 days at a stretch. Landslips have previously occurred on the road leading to the Nandi statue, causing concern.
Experts and environmentalists say excessive commercialisation atop the hills and increased construction activity, may be the cause of such landslips on Chamundi Hills. But so far, the government has not acted on the issue.
