BENGALURU: The Visvesvaraya Museum on Kasturba Road in the city on Friday received an email threatening that an explosion would occur when it opens for the day. However, it later turned out to be a hoax.

The email, sent from the ID Morgue999lol, claimed that several explosives had been planted at the museum and they would go off in the morning. The email claimed to be from Terrorizers 111, which had sent a similar mail to the Indian Museum in Kolkata.

After receiving a complaint from the Visvesvaraya Museum director, the Cubbon Park police, along with the bomb disposal and dog squads, searched the entire premises and later declared it a hoax.

“After we received the email, we informed the Cubbon Park police who asked us to immediately stop public entry for some time. The entire premises was sanitised and visitors were allowed in later”, said the museum director.

The threat email is believed to have been sent to several museums across the country, police said.
