History-sheeter shot at in Hubballi, 3 police personnel injured

HUBBALLI: A history-sheeter was shot at by the police on the outskirts of Anand Nagar here on Tuesday when he tried to attack a police team during a spot inspection as part of the investigation into a case of assault. Three policemen, including a sub-inspector, were also injured in the incident.

All the injured have been admitted to the KIMS Hospital. Police Commissioner N Shashikumar visited the injured police personnel and the history-sheeter at the hospital and inquire about their health. The injured are history-sheeter Mallik Adhoni, police sub-inspector Vishwanath Aalamatti and constables Kallanagouda and Sharif Sab Nadaf.

Addressing media persons later, the police chief said Mallik had borrowed Rs 4 lakh from one Irfan and when the latter sought return of the money, Mallik, along with his associates, went to Irfan’s house on Monday night and created a ruckus.

“Irfan and his friend are admitted at KIMS hospital and Mallik had claimed that he too was attacked. Footage from CCTV has revealed who carried out the attack. On Tuesday morning, the police had taken Mallik for spot inspection to gather information about the others involved in the case when he attacked three police personnel in his bid to escape. Then, the police opened fire, injuring Mallik in the leg”, Shashikumar said.
