High court gives nod for CID probe into police-lawyers’ faceoff

CHIKKAMAGALUR: The Karnataka High Court has approved the handing over of the investigation into the clashes between the police and lawyers to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Protests had broken out after policemen had booked some lawyers for not wearing helmets.

The CID will begin investigation from today into the five FIRs registered in the case under Superintendent of Police Venkatesh. The high court has also directed the CID to hold a meeting on December 9 with office-bearers of the advocates’ association, Home secretary and DIG and to submit the proceedings of the meeting on December 12.

The court has posted the matter for further hearing on December 12 and is expected to deliver its verdict on the same day. Meanwhile, the advocates’ association has agreed end their court boycott and withdraw their protest.
