BENGALURU: A hi-tech footpath near KR Market, rebuilt just one year ago, is already in a pathetic state. The BBMP laid the footpaths using cement tile blocks and white-topped the road to give it a hi-tech look. But the cement blocks are already dislodged, scattered and some of them were broken. Citizens are cursing the BBMP for the poor construction work.

The government and the BBMP are taking up many projects in the name of creating better infrastructure and major traffic junctions are being beautified while white-topping work is being on roads and footpaths relaid. Ever since the white-topping work was carried out in front area of the KR Market Metro station, pedestrians are avoiding the footpath and using the main road, risking their lives, due to the poor quality of work.

A citizen, Premkumar, said the BBMP should take up repair work immediately. “I don’t know whether the BBMP has interest in getting this mess fixed or has left it unattended purposefully. We will teach them a lesson in the coming election. They are not maintaining quality in construction work. As a result, the work will get spoiled in a short period of time”.

The Congress government is investigating allegations of poor quality of work undertaken during the previous government, and some cases are being probed by the Lokayukta. Citizens are demanding that the footpaths be fixed at the earliest.
