BENGALURU: After packaged drinking water units, health officials have now set their eyes on RO drinking water units. Health Minister U T Khader has given instruction to officials for inspection of RO drinking water units. Lakhs of people are dependent on RO drinking water units in urban, semi-urban and even rural areas. Hence, officials have been instructed to check the water quality, cleanliness and purity.

Food Safety and Quality Department had conducted huge drive to curb sale of poor quality and impure packaged drinking water in the state. Legal action has been taken against 24 packaged drinking water units which were operating in violation of rules and show-cause notices issued after lack of cleanliness and purity was found.

Following this, Health Minister U T Khader has given instruction for inspection of RO drinking water units. Like action taken on packaged water bottling units, instruction given for inspection of pure drinking water units.

In Bengaluru, there is one RO drinking water unit per road while in every village, there is one unit. People rush to RO drinking water units thinking that filter water will not be contaminated and will be clean. For that reason, RO pure drinking water units will be tested and if there is rule violation action will be taken.

Health Minister U T Khader said, “Officials recently inspected about 102 packaged drinking water plants and 12 units were shut down while notices were issued to 50 units. All samples have been sent for testing. We are planning to test water at RO water plants and people depend on it more, especially during summer and drought seasons”.
