Health Department to receive genome sequencing report by Saturday

BENGALURU: A total of 19 international passengers have tested Covid-positive at the Kempegowda International Airport till Tuesday and their samples were sent to a genomic sequencing laboratory to identify the coronavirus variant. The passengers’ genome sequence report  will be out by Saturday.

The report will give a clear picture of the presence of the BF.7 variant in the state. The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and experts have suggested making masks mandatory and imposing a fine for those who do not wear masks. The BBMP health officials went to the streets and distributed masks and raised awareness about the positivity rate and also about booster vaccination.

The officers have planned to initiate precautionary measures in the shopping hotspots in the city. In Chickpet, all the shopkeepers and others have started to wear masks and 25 per cent of the public started to wear masks. The officials have planned to check the vaccination certificates of all the shop owners and workers.
