BENGALURU: A police head constable has been accused of stealing Rs 11 lakh from the car of a suspect in a cybercrime case which was parked on the police commissioner’s office premises.
The suspect, who was arrested in a cybercrime case, had kept the money in his car. When he was brought to the police station for questioning, head constable Zabiullah allegedly stole the cash.
Meanwhile, the suspect was arrested and sent to jail by Police Inspector Umesh and team. After he came out on bail, the suspect found the cash missing from his car and questioned the cyber crime police. When they checked the CCTV cameras, it was revealed that Zabiullah had stolen the bag containing the cash.
Deputy Commissioner Raja Khasim then obtained a complaint from the suspect and the cyber crime police searched Zabiullah’s house. The head constable tried to prevent the police from searching his house and created high drama. During the search, the police found bundles of currency notes stacked under a bed.
Zabiullah and used some of the stolen moneey to buy jewellery for his wife. The police have recovered Rs 2 lakh from him and asked him to return the remaining amount. The incident has sparked outrage, with allegations that the police are trying to cover up the case.
This is not the first time Bengaluru police personnel have been involved in such scandals. Recently, a constable was arrested in connection with a robbery case in Sidadapura, and two officers were suspended for extorting money from senior citizens in JP Nagar.
Meanwhile, four police personnel have been suspended for dereliction of duty in Bengaluru. The suspended personnel include ASI Srinivas Murthy (Nandini Layout police station) for not registering a complaint and ignoring a petitioner, ASI Jayarame Gowda and Head Constable Dharma (Subramanyanagar police station) for not producing witnesses in court despite receiving summons and Constable Nazeer (Sanjaynagar police station) for being absent from duty at the CM’s residence.
The suspensions were ordered by DCP (north) Nemagouda following complaints and an investigation.
