H5N1 bird flu virus detected in Bengaluru, Hesaraghatta poultry farm shut

BENGALURU: Chicken lovers, beware! The H5N1 virus, commonly known as the bird flu, has entered the state. On the directions of the central government, inspections are being conducted at poultry farms around the city after the H5N1 virus was found in chickens.

The H5N1 virus was detected in the very first inspection. In this backdrop, the government has dug pits and buried the chicken present in the poultry farm. Currently, the poultry farm at Hesaraghatta that comes under the state government has been closed and medical officers have quarantined the poultry rearers. The farm supplied chickens to various parts of the state.

Government veterinary officers have issued notices to the surrounding panchayats as well, instructing them to conduct inspections at chicken rearing sheds and chicken shops. The H5N1 bird flu has been detected amid the summer heat. The state government has issued notices to veterinary officers, directing them to conduct inspections of chicken sheds in the surrounding areas.
