Gun, Rs 19 lakh in cash seized by election officials at checkposts

BENGALURU, CHIKKODI, RAICHUR: Election officials seized a gun and five rounds of ammunition at the Lanco toll plaza from a car bound for Madikeri from Bengaluru.

The licenced revolver belongs to one Ratan (35), who was heading to Madikeri via the Nelamangala route. A case has been registered at the Nelamangala Rural police station.

Election officials also checked the car of former minister K Gopalaiah at the Mahadevapura checkpost on the Nelamangala-Hassan national highway.

In Chikkodi, police took two people into custody who were carrying Rs 16.31 lakh without any documents on Wednesday night. The cash was discovered during checks at the Chikkodi bus stand.

During questioning, the duo revealed that they were from Inchalkaranji in Maharashtra. The police have handed over the cash to the Income Tax Department and a case was registered.

The cash was in a parcel with the driver of the private bus.

In Lingasugur taluk of Raichur district, Rs 3.50 lakh cash, which was being transported in a bus with fake documents of a jewellery store, was seized at the Chettar checkpost in Mudgal police limits during checks on Wednesday night.

The private bus was on its way from Yadgir to Bengaluru. A parcel with the driver Basavaraj had a note saying that the cash was to be given to the owner of the jewellery store.
