KOLAR: The headmistress of a government school allegedly broke the hand of a Class 7 girl student for offering prayers to an idol of Lord Ganesha at Allikallu village in KGF taluk on Thursday.

Hemalatha, the headmistress of the government higher primary school in the village, has been accused by the parents of Bhavyashree, the student, of breaking her arm, causing a fracture, for offering prayers to Lord Ganesha.

Bhavyashree was taken to the government hospital for treatment and she now has her left arm in a sling as she suffered a fracture. Her father said the fracture may need at least a month to heal. The parents and other villagers have written to the block education officer Munivenkata Ramachari to immediately transfer the teacher.

“The parents called me on Thursday night and informed about the incident. I met the girl and her parents at their house, and I also met some villagers and the SDMC chairman. We will take legal action”, the BEO said.
