BENGALURU: Even as state government is planning to seek more time from the Supreme Court to hold the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) elections, the State Election Commission is quietly making preparations for holding the election to the civic body.

The SEC has now started ward-wise revision of the electoral rolls and has deployed officials for the purpose. A joint/deputy commissioner will be responsible for each assembly constituency.

The nine weeks’ time given by the Supreme Court is drawing to a close. On May 20, the top court had given eight weeks for sorting out OBC reservation and ward delimitation, and one week for preparations to hold elections.

So far, the government has only been able to complete ward delimitation, but is yet to finalise ward-wise reservation. Hence, it plans to seek more time from the Supreme Court.

The hearing was to be held today, but has been put off to July 26.
