Govt issues notice to KSCA on Chinnaswamy Stadium capacity

BENGALURU: After the tragic incident in Bengaluru, where 11 people lost their lives in a stampede outside the M Chinnaswamy Stadium during the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) victory celebrations on June 4, the state government issued a notice to the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) asking it to submit a safety and capacity test report of the stadium.

The stampede incident that occurred on June 4 during the RCB victory parade. Since then, Chinnaswamy Stadium has been excluded from domestic and international matches.

Now, the government has instructed the KSCA to provide a fitness report from the Public Works Department (PWD). The government has granted 17 acres and 11 guntas of land for an annual rent of Rs 19,000 and KSCA has built structures as per its wishes, the notice said.

Therefore, a notice has been issued from the Bengaluru Sub‑Division Executive Engineer, Public Works Department, to appoint qualified experts and submit a report on the entire Chinnaswamy Stadium.
