BENGALURU: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), under the Amrit Nagarothana scheme, has been renovating the city’s well-built footpaths in Govindarajanagar and Mahalakshmi Layout leading to citizens accusing the corporation of taking advantage of the scheme to help contractors make profits.

A well-laid footpath in Govindarajanagar was torn up to be relaid again.

The city’s pedestrian-friendly footpaths are being torn up and relaid with the same old tiles after laying concrete. Residents are enraged over a well-laid footpath at Govindarajanagar being redone and the reconstruction of a drainage at Mahalakshmi Layout at a cost of around Rs 77 lakh.

Raghavendra, a resident of Govindarajanagar

“Residents of Govindarajanagar go for a walk at the Balaganagadharanatha Stadium Park. The footpath in the area was well laid and user-friendly. They are tearing up the footpath, laying concrete and redoing it with the old footpath tiles. We do not know the motive behind this, but this is wrong. We have good footpaths in our constituency. We appeal to the government and BBMP officials to look into the issue”, said Raghavendra, a resident of Govindarajanagar.
