Gold worth Rs 4 crore seized from passenger at KIA

BENGALURU: The Customs officials at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) have seized seven gold biscuits 06.5 kg and worth Rs 4 crore from a passenger who arrived on an Indore-Bengaluru flight. The incident occurred last Friday evening and has scome to light only now.

The smugglers had kept the gold under the seat in the aircraft before hand and the passenger, who hails from Chennai, had booked the same seat for himself on the IndiGo 6E6744 flight. Enroute Bengaluru, he transferred the gold bars into his bag with the confidence that domestic air travellers are not checked.

However, the Customs officials checked his baggage on suspicion and found the seven gold bards. The Customs Department has registered a case and is now investigating how the gold was placed under the seat of the aircraft in the first place.
