CHIKKABALLAPUR: A few young girls belonging to the Muslim community have disrespected Goddess Ganga by placing their feet on an idol at the Srinivasa Sagar reservoir in Chikkaballapur district. A video of the incident has sparked outrage on social media.

Some girls had placed their feet on the idol of Goddess Ganga.

The reservoir is full after continuous rain over the last three days and has been attracting a lot of visitors. The incident occurred when the girls, part of a group of tourists, were bathing in the reservoir’s waters. The girls can seen putting their feet on the idol’s head and posing for photos and videos.

The video has led to widespread anger among the Hindu community, with many demanding action against the women. Some organizations have warned of protests if the culprits are not punished.

“This is a painful matter as the idol has been defiled by women from another community by putting their feet on the head of the idol of the goddess. The place has a lot of religious and historical signifance. The act has hurt Hindus and the devotees should condemn such acts. This has been repeating and the authorities should prevent this”, said Madhu, a priest.

“More than feeling happy about the increasing number of tourists to the district, we are feeling sad. The tourists don’t respect the cultural importance of the place and behave recklessly. This act of placing legs of the idol of the goddess has hurt Hindu sentiments and we demand action against them”, said Sadashiva, a local resident.

Manoj, a Hindu activist, said, “No Hindu will indulge in such an act. Whoever has indulged in such an act, they should be punished for it and the Tourism department and police should investigate the issue. We will launch a protest if action is not taken”.
