Girl holding candle near bottle of petrol suffers burns, dies in hospital

TUKAMURU: A Class 10 student died after suffering burns when the candle she was holding came in contact with a bottle of petrol, at Kattigehalli in Yediyur taluk on Friday. She was shifted to Victoria Hospital in Bengaluru, but did not respond to treatment.

Soundarya (16) is the daughter of Lakshman and a student of Mahatma Gandhi PU College. Her father Lakshman runs a grocery store where petrol was also stocked. Soundarya was holding a candle in the shop as there was a power outage. When the power was restored, she suddenly dropped a bottle of petrol which caught fire leading to her sustaining burn injuries.

She was rushed to hospital, but did not survive. The Amruthur police have registered a case and are investigating.
