Girl charred to death after car catches fire in accident

BENGALURU: A 15-years-old girl was charred to death on Sunday night after the car she was travelling in caught fire due to a collision with another car near the Madavara toll on the Bengaluru-Tumakuru highway near Nelamangala.

The accident occurred around 10 pm on Sunday when she was coming from her brother’s house. The deceased is 15-year-old Divya who was in the Maruti Omni car.

A  Maruti Baleno crashed into the Omni car from behind causing it to overturn and catch fire. A total of eight people were traveling in the car. Seven people suffered burn injuries while the 15-year-old girl was burnt alive in the car.

Among the eight people who were traveling in the Omni car, Divya died while Mayank, Manjula, Sunita, Tarun, Mahesh, Naman and Shantilal were injured. Sunita and Mayank are in critical condition and the injured are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Madavara. All the injured are from Gujarati families.

Bengaluru Rural Superintendent of Police Mallikarjun Baladandi inspected the accident site and gave details of the accident.

“The incident took place at 10 pm on the Tumkur road highway. The Baleno car hit the Omni from behind. The car in front overturned twice and then caught fire. The people who were in the Baleno car, have to be checked. We are investigating whether they were driving under the influence of alcohol. All the injured have been treated”, the SP said.
