BENGALURU: Have you noticed hundreds of flexes and banners while driving on any road, any lane in the city? Even though there is a High Court order, not to mention the GBA rules, influential people and political leaders seem to be the ones who care about them. Whether it is a birthday, a village festival, a welcome flex, protest, demonstration, a conference — flexes are everywhere. However, the Greater Bengaluru Authority is planning to come up with new plan.

Despite BBMP undergoing a name change as GBA, the nuisance of flexes that harm not just the aesthetics of Bengaluru but also the environment, hasn’t stopped. Especially the flexes of political leaders are visible in the city. Political parties and political leaders have the most flexes, and to curb this, GBA has made rules, imposed fines and even introduced system of registering police cases.

The GBA has now planned a special drive to clear unauthorised flexes, and in the five zones, any illegal flexes will be removed this week.

Maheshwar Rao, Chief Commissioner of GBA, speaking about its drive against flexes and banners, said, “Under the strict instructions of Deputy CM D K Shivakumar, the GBA is preparing a blueprint for this special operation. No matter which political party, even if it is a flex of the Deputy CM himself, the GBA is ready to remove it and impose penalties on those who put them up”.
