Ganja addict dies at rehabilitation centre, kin allege he was tortured and killed

CHIKKABALLAPUR: A youth who was addicted to ganja died suspiciously days after he was admitted to a deaddiction centre in Chintamani taluk.

Manjunath (21), a resident of Srinivasapura, was admitted to Sattva deaddiction and rehabilitation centre at Budagavarahalli in Chintamani taluk four days ago. However, he died all of a sudden on Tuesday.

While the family members allege that the body bore marks of assault, the deaddiction centre say Manjunath died at a government hospital where he was taken. The Chintamani Rural police have registered a case and further investigation is under way.

In another incident, the body of a man was found suspiciously hanging from a tree on the banks of the Amanibhairasagar lake on Siddlaghatta road on the outskirts of Chikkaballapur town.

The deceased Sandulla Mallesh, hailing from Andhra Pradesh, was an associate employed with Tata Consultancy Services Ltd in Mumbai. His body was found in an almost kneeling position hanging from a tree leading to suspicion whether he had committed suicide or was murdered.

The Chikkaballapur Rural police visited the spot and have registered a case. Further investigation is under way.
