KOPPAL: Days after two terror suspects were arrested by the Shivamogga police, a plantain merchant from Gangavati has been detained on suspicion of having links with the arrested duo.

On Sunday night, the Shivamogga police arrested Shabbir on suspicion of having links with suspected terrorists. His family members, who are residents of Bannigida Camp, have refused to speak about his detention. Work at his wholesale business premises has also come to a standstill.

Koppal police intensified patrolling on Sunday night.

Koppal SP Arunangshu Giri only said that the Shivamogga police had taken Shabbir into custody, but did not elaborate on the reasons. Meanwhile, the Koppal police intensified patrolling since Sunday night itself.

Gangavati MLA Paranna Munavalli said it is the second such instance in four days and expressed concern over the developments. “The police suspect that there are 2-3 more people with terror links in Gangavati and I have discussed the issue with them. I will also take it up with Home Minister and Chief Minister”, he added.
