Gang of four arrested for honeytrapping Kalaburagi doctor after promising medical seat for nephew

BENGALURU: The Central Crime Branch police (CCB) have arrested a gang of four, including the kingpin, which had honeytrapped a Kalaburagi doctor and extorted Rs 50 lakh from him.

Dr Shankar from Aland in Kalaburagi district was looking to get his younger brother’s son into a medical course. Last year, his friend Nagaraj agreed to get him a seat for Rs 66 lakh, which the doctor paid him in instalments. When the boy did not get a medical seat, the doctor asked for his money to be returned.

Nagaraj promised to return the money and put up the doctor in a lodge Upparpet. Early next morning, there was high drama. Two women entered the doctor’s room followed by two fake policemen who threatened the doctor of booking him in a prostitution case. They then demanded Rs 70 lakh not to register a case.

The gang then extorted Rs 50 lakh from the doctor and later began harassing him for Rs 20 lakh more towards securing bail for the two women. Fed up of this, the doctor lodged a complaint following which Nagaraj and his three accomplices were apprehended.
