Gang of 3 women relieves woman of Rs 3.5 lakh in bank; Man loses Rs 1.5 lakh kept in scooter glove box

Two of the thieves spotted rushing out of the bank and the victim giving chase after raising an alarm.

DAVANAGERE, KOPPAL: A gang of three women stole Rs 3.5 lakh from a woman who had gone to the Canara Bank branch at Santhebennur to renew her gold loan on Friday. Two of the thieves were caught by locals and handed over to the police while another escaped.

Latha, a resident of Tanigere village, and her husband had gone to the bank to deposit Rs 3.5 lakh. While the husband waited outside, Latha went into the bank. While filling out the challan, one of the three women, who had lent a pen, sat on the floor close to Latha, cut her bag which had the cash and the women rushed out.

Latha said, “I suddenly felt my bag was lighter and the women did not even wait for me to return the pen. I came out and raised and alarm and we managed to recover Rs 2.5 lakh. The remaining Rs 1 lakh is believed to be with the third woman who escaped”.

The arrested women were identified as Priyanka Sisodia and Priyanka. The Santhebennur police are now on the lookout for the third woman.

An unidentified man is seen approaching the scooter and making away with a packet containing the cash.

In another incident, unidentified thieves stole Rs 1.5 lakh which was kept in the glove box of a scooter at Malakasamudra village in Yelburga taluk of Koppal district.

Eerappa Dastani had withdrawn the money from the Karnataka Grameena Bank and kept the money in his scooter glove box. When Eerappa stopped to have tea, the unidentified thieves, who had noticed him keep the money in the glove box, made away with the cash.

The theft was captured on CCTV camera. The Yelburga police visited the spot and have taken up further investigation after registering a case.
