Four dead as speeding car rams into sugarcane-laden parked tractor trailer

BAGALKOT: Four people died after the car they were travelling in rammed into a parked tractor trailer, laden with sugarcane, on National Highway-218 near Anagawadi Cross in Bilagi taluk in the early hour today.

The deceased include the car driver and a woman. They were identified as Mallu Pujari (35), Kallu Kavatagi (35), Kamakshi Badiger (30) and Tukaram Talewad (30), all residents of Honaganahalli in Basavana Bagewadi taluk.

The car was completely mangled due to the impact.

According to locals, the four had been to the Banashankari temple fair and the accident occurred when they were returning to their village. Some locals said the car was at high speed, resulting in the accident. The car was completely mangled due to the impact.

Additional SP Prasanna Desai and other senior police officials visited the spot. The bodies were shifted to the district government hospital for post-mortem examination.
