BENGALURU: Four people were arrested for illegally smuggling Amazon parrots, in the city on Sunday.
The young ones of the Amazon parrots were being transported from Chennai to Bengaluru in a private bus when the CID Forest Department conducted a raid after receiving information about the smuggling, and busted the racket and rescued twelve rare Amazon parrots.
According to the Wildlife Conservation Act, the smuggling of Amazon parrots is an offense. During the investigation, the Forest Department officials discovered a network on social media where these parrots are sold for money. The young Amazon parrots die immediately after being separated from their mother. The young ones are sold for as much as Rs 10,000 a pair.
