Four arrested for assault on Madiga community youth in Tarikere village

CHIKKAMAGALUR: Four people have been arrested for assaulting a Madiga community youth who had entered the Gollarahatti in Geramaradi village on work. Maruthi, who works as an excavator operator, was also allegedly made to pay a penalty of Rs 2,200.

The arrested are Shivaram, Rajappa, Shankar and Thammaiah. The incident had occurred on on January 1 and a case was registered the next day against 15 people. A team has been formed under the Deputy SP to nab the 11 other accused in the case.

Following the incident, Dalit groups had staged a protest in the village demanding that action be taken against the accused under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
