Four arrested after two groups clash in Bagalkot

BAGALKOT: Four people have been arrested after two groups clashed at Navanagar here on Wednesday night over the issue of speeding on a motorcycle. The arrested include two Hindu youths and two Muslim youths.

On Thursday, heavy police deployment was made at Navanagar Sector 49 and the district hospital with four platoons of the District Armed Reserve (DAR) and Karnataka State Reserve Police (KSRP), four Deputy SPs, six police inspectors, 15 sub-inspectors and other personnel.

Senior police officers at the spot where the clash occurred on Wednesday night.

Trouble started over speeding on a motorcycle and stones were pelted at the house of Pradeep Dalabhanjan. This led to a clash between Hindu and Muslim groups. Leaders of Hindu groups also got into an argument with the police on Wednesday night.

In the clashes, four Hindu youths and three Muslim youths sustained injuries and have been admitted to the district hospital. A tense atmosphere prevails and tight security arrangements have been made at Bagalkot and Navanagar.
