Girish was attacked during an operation to drive back an elephant into the forest.

MADIKERI: A Forest Department employee sustained serious injuries during an operation to drive back an elephant into the forest at Kedakal near here on Monday. This comes days after a shooter was killed while trying to tranquilise an injured elephant in Aluk taluk of Hassan district.

Girish (35), a member of the rapid response team (RRT) at Anekadu sustained serious injuries during the attempt to drive the elephant back into the forest. He was immediately shifted to the district hospital in Madikeri for treatment.

Girish has been working with the Anekadu RRT for the last few years. Divisional Forest Office A T Poovaiah and other officials visited him in hospital and inquired about his condition.
