The officials were attacked when they went to survey encroached forest land.

BELAGAVI: Five Forest Department officials were injured and several vehicles damaged after villagers started pelting stones at a team of Forest officials who had gone to survey encroached land belonging to the Khanagaon reserve forest.

The team of Forest and police officials had gone to Yelapatti village in Gokak taluk on Monday to survey 500 acres of forest land on Survey Nos. 477,718/A and 580A.

Government and private vehicles were damaged in the stone-throwing by villagers.

At that time, villagers started pelting stones at the officials leaving five of them injured and several vehicles, including private ones, damaged.

A case has been registered in this connection at the Gokak Rural police station.
