Food grains being siphoned off from girls’ hostel; Villagers nab two men

A two were nabbed by the Nittur villagers, while transporting food grains from the Girls' hostel in Bidar on Sunday

BIDAR: The driver of a good vehicle and his assistant were nabbed by villagers of Nittur in Bhalki taluk on Sunday night, while they were transporting food grains illegally from the Government Girls’ Hostel, to be sold in the black market.

The accused were trying to steal grains from the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Girls’ Hostel and were caught red-handed by the villagers, who took them to task. Villagers alleged that the two had been illegally selling food grains worth lakhs of rupees, including maize and rice, over the last few months.

The driver of the goods vehicle and his helper were caught by villagers.

Rajkumar Nittur, the gram panchayat member claimed that the cooks from the hostel brought maize bags from their house to sell them. The driver of the goods vehicle and his helper are not involved, he claimed.

He also demanded that the authorities concerned should conduct a probe into the alleged illegal transport of food grains.
