Five in police custody over alleged moral policing at Someshwara beach

Police at the Someshwara beach on Thursday night where the alleged moral policing incident is said to have occurred.

MANGALURU: The Ullal police have taken five people into custody in connection with the alleged moral policing incident which occurred at the Someshwara beach.

Three Muslim youths from Kerala, who had gone to the beach with three Hindu girls, were allegedly assaulted by a group of youths. The youths, hailing from Cherkala in Kasargod district, are students of a private educational institution in the city. The girls are paramedical students.

A group of local youths allegedly followed them and assaulted them on the beach leaving three of them injured. Jaffer Sharif, Mujeeb and Ashiq, the injured, were admitted to a hospital in Deralakatte. The girls reportedly went to Kerala following the incident.

The Ullal police had formed two teams and arrested Yatish, a resident of Ullal Bastipadu, Sachin, a resident of Uchil, and Talapady residents Mokshit, Suhan and Akhil.
