Fire breaks out at Uttarakhand hotel following cylinder blast

UTTARAKHAND: A fire broke out after a gas cylinder exploded in the canteen of a hotel situated in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag-Kedarnath road, officials said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Tuesday night and the fire has been doused.

According to the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) they recieved information from Sonprayag police station that a fire broke out in a hotel’s canteen in Gaurikund due to explosion of a gas cylinder and that SDRF team is required for relief and rescue operations.

The SDRF rescue team immediately left for the spot and brought the fire under control. No loss of life was reported.

Huge plumes of fire and smoke were seen billowing out from the site and eyewitnesses reported a loud explosion caused by a malfunctioning gas cylinder.

The temple committee canteen, which attracts numerous visitors and devotees suffered damage from the fire, but the extent of the damage is yet to be assessed. (ANI)
