FIR registered against telco for digging up road without BBMP consent

BENGALURU: A citizen who staged a protest against a private telecom company, which had dug a pit on 4th Cross road in Hanumant Nagar ward under Basavanagudi constituency on Sunday without prior permission from the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike to fix a cable wire, has earned accolades.

Condemning the shoddy work of the private company, Anil Kumar sat inside the pit the whole day to mark his protest on Tuesday.

Following this, Vidya, an engineer from Road Infrastructure wing of the BBMP South Division in Jayanagar, filed a complaint with the Hanumant Nagar Police station and an FIR was registered against a private telecom company and an individual, Manjunath, who is accused of damaging public property.

As per the complaint, the private company dug a pit on the road without prior permission. There is provision in the laws to collect Rs 25 lakh penalty from the accused for every such cases and the culprits should repair or reconstruct the damaged road. As per the order, the company damaged public property that comes under the BBMP and the company has now been asked to pay up Rs 70,611 for damaging public property.
