Final year BA student commits suicide due to ragging at college in Guledagudda

Anjali returned home from college and ended her life on Friday afternoon.

BAGALKOT: A final year BA student committed suicide on Saturday due to alleged ragging at her college in Guledagudda after leaving behind a suicide note naming two students as being responsible for her death. The deceased is Anjali Mundasa (21), who was studying at Bhandari College.

Anjali, in her death note, has said that Varsha Jammanakatti, Pradeep Alagundi and others subjected her to ragging, leaving her distressed and noted that they should not be let go as they were responsible for her slipping into depression.

Activists of ABVP took the college authorities to task on Saturday.

Following Anjali’s suicide, an FIR was registered at the Guledagudda police station. On Saturday, parents and ABVP activists vented their anger at the college authorities and claimed that Anjali had been locked up in a room and subjected to ragging for one hour.

After the college authorities agreed to register a complaint against the accused and assured of expelling the two students named in the death note, Anjali’s parents agreed to perform the last rites.

Anjali’s mother, a midday meal worker, was away at work at when she ended her life.

Anjali’s mother is a midday meal worker and was good at studies. On Friday, Anjali had returned home from college crying and committed suicide by hanging. It is alleged that Anjali was close to a male student and that Varsha and Pradeed would tease her about it and also rag her.
