RAICHUR: People barged into fair price shop in Hirekotnekal in Manvi taluk and took away rice as they were fed up with the shop owner haggling over distributing PDS rice.

There are 400 families in the village and only 200 families have been given rice at the fair price shop. From the last two months, people noticed that there is a difference in the quantity of rice distributed. Fed up with this, the villagers expressed outrage against Channabasava Gowda, the owner of the fair price shop. Later, they took away the rice themselves from the bags from inside the shop.

The villagers alleged that the owner of the fair price shop used to cheat in distributing rice claiming a shortage in stock and that he would sell the rice in the black market. The villagers have demanded the authorities concerned to take action against the fair price shop owner.
