Farmer crushes 7 acres of soy crop due to pest menace, lack of rain

BENGALURU: Fed up of the pest menace, a farmer crushed crops on seven acres of his land with a tractor.

Yallappa Gaudageri of Samshi village in Kundagola taluk of Dharwad district, had cultivated soybean on his seven acres of land. But due to lack of monsoon rain, the crop was damaged by an increased pest menace.

Yallappa decided that there was no use in spraying pesticides by spending lakhs of rupees and fed up, he decided to destroy the crops.

Yallappa Gaudageri said, “There is not enough rain. We have sown twice, but the seed and fertilizer have gone in vain. The estimated damage cost is around Rs 3 lakh. We will commit suicide if they don’t give us compensation. This is the only way our for a farmer”.
