BENGALURU: Thousands of fake tickets were sold at double the price for the Indian Premier League (IPL) match between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) at Chinnaswamy Stadium on April 2, which was RCB’s first match of the season.
The QR codes of many tickets could not be scanned while letting the spectators into the stadium. However, the security staff let the fans in assuming that there might have been a technical fault with the scanner. But now, it has come to light why the tickets could not be scanned.
Shockingly, more than 7,000 fake tickets were sold for RCB’s first match at double the actual price. Given the rush of fans, the security staff allowed the fans through though the QR code on the fake tickets could not be scanned. It has now come to light that 40,000 tickets were sold for the RCB vs MI match at Chinnaswamy Stadium against 33,000 which were officially sold.
After the fake ticket issue was uncovered, a case was registered at the Cubbon Park Police Station. Two people who were selling the fake tickets in black have been arrested by the police, and during the investigation, they have admitted to selling the fake tickets at prices that were 2-3 times higher. More policeĀ personnel were deployed for the RCB vs Lucknow Super Giants match on Monday.
