BENGALURU: While many districts are reeling under the effect of the monsoon, the Met department has predicted that heavy rain will lash the state till July 5.
The monsoon effect has petered down in some districts and is expected to pick up in Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkamagalur, Shivamogga, the Western Ghats and other districts between June 30 and July 5.
The Met department has issued and orange alert for these places while a yellow alert has been issued for Bengaluru which is expected to witness light to moderate rain.
“The southwest monsoon is active in coastal Karnataka and and south-interior and north-interior Karnataka. An offshore trough is visible in the Arabian Sea due to which moderate to heavy rainfall is possible”, according to Prasad, a scientist at the Met department.
Fishermen have been advised not to venture into the sea and low-lying areas could witness flooding.
Strong winds of about 40-50 kmph will be experienced in the coastal areas, he added.
