BENGALURU: An 18-year-old second semester engineering student was found hanging under suspicious circumstances in the college hostel room at Heelalige near Chandapura on Thursday night. The deceased was identified as Harshita, hailing from Karadihalli in Arasikere taluk. She had taken up the ECE course at Bangalore College of Engineering and Technology.
Another student, Pragathi, who stays in the next room, opened the door of Harshita’s room and tried to rescue her. There was no one else in Harshita’s hostel room at that time, Pragathi said.
On Friday morning, students of the private college staged a protest to condemn the suicide of the student. The Suryanagar police visited the college and convinced the students to call off their protest.
The incident occurred at Bangalore College of Engineering and Technology. It is said that alleged harassment by the college authorities led Harshita to end her life. “Her legs were moving, so I opened the door to rescue her. But the college authorities are questioning why I entered the room. She was alone in the room at that time as her roommate vacated recently. We dont’ know why she committed suicide. She wouldn’t mingle much others”, said Pragathi.
